cockyYou may have heard someone or another say that when you are dealing with leads and/or prospects that you want to have the right posture.  But you may not know exactly what that means.  Many don’t…I know I sure didn’t.

Let me share with you what happened to me one time when I was still learning about posture and being an alpha leader:

I got a text message from a friend of mine whom I hadn’t spoken with in quite a while asking me if I had heard of the product her company promotes.  Long story short, I informed her I was very familiar with her company and that I wasn’t interested in getting involved as I was quite happy doing what I was currently doing at that time.

Then she asked me what company and here is where I got a little cocky.  I basically told her that it’s not important, that she’s already involved in “Company A” and she needs to just focus on that.

OUCH!  Looking back, that was kinda rough and I could have responded with a little less attitude… but at the time, that is what I thought having posture entailed…in part, that is.

I have also seen it happen with others as well, maybe not in the exact same light, but similar.

So What DOES It Mean To Have Posture In Your Marketing?

Basically it means that internally, in your own mind, you are not attached to the outcome one way or the other.  If you are speaking with someone about your business or your marketing system or whatever, you will not be doing flips and setting off fireworks if they say “Yes” and you will not call it quits, cry, nor have your whole world shaken to pieces if they say “No”.  It doesn’t matter to you either way because you KNOW that there are other people in this world, you know that for every no the closer you are to a yes and you know that just because they say yes, they may or may not produce.

It’s also being confident in knowing that you hold value and that they would benefit from being part of your team as well as being confident that what you have to offer, be it your marketing system or your primary business, is something that can help others and if they decide not to take you up on it, shame on THEM…they are rejecting it (the business) and not you!

But there is a difference in being confident and being cocky…there’s a difference between having the posture of a leader and being outright arrogant.

You don’t want to TELL people, “Hey, check out my posture…don’t waste my time” in those exact words BUT…you can convey it in other ways.  A better way would be to say, “I know your time is valuable as is mine…”

It’s kind of like people who walk around with a big, huge Bible under their arms and they’re always spouting off, “I’m a Christian!” rather than allowing it to shine through in the way that they carry themselves…in how they live.

In business, it’s all in how you carry yourself, professionally, with confidence and an attitude of “I don’t NEED you” but not actually verbalizing that.  As one of my mentors said, you want to be like James Bond on the outside…calm, cool and collected.
