Shaklee is a company that has been on the block for a long time… over 50 years to be exact. Shaklee Corporation was founded in 1956 by Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee, Sr. who also helped pioneer both the nutritional supplement industry as well as the method of distribution that rewards word-of-mouth referrals – what we know as Network Marketing.
The program offers all-natural nutritional products and earth-friendly cleaning and other household products. Shaklee prides themselves on not using any pesticides and other contaminants in their products and animal-lovers will appreciate the fact that they do not perform any animal testing.
What Exactly Does Shaklee Offer?
Shaklee offers the following types of products:
- Healthy Nutrition that includes an array of nutritional supplements to aid in restoring your body’s health
- Healthy Weight that includes meal replacement shakes, bars, teas and more to help with your weight goals
- Healthy Beauty with skin care and makeup to improve your skin, hair and enhance your overall appearance
- Healthy Home to clean your environment without using harsh chemicals that may harm it
Any Cons?
You may be wondering if something so good for you and the environment could ever be…bad? Well, not “bad” per say but what I’ve found with companies like Shaklee is that, oftentimes they advise you to “simply” replace what you already buy with these products but this may not always be financially feasible for all – especially at first. For example, while their cleansing soap bar may be extremely good for the skin, some people whose household budgets are adjusted for a monthly cost of $7-8 for an entire family pack of soap may find it a tad difficult to pay that same price for one bar!
But in retrospect, many of their products are definitely as friendly to the budget as they are to the environment, especially the household products. I have used and really loved their Basic H2 ™ as well as the Scour Off ™ products!
What About Shaklee’s Marketing Plan?
In general, I see Shaklee as a great and highly reputible company with wonderful products. However, there is still one little flaw that they, like most other MLM companies have and that’s in how they train their distributors to market the business. While their system may work for some, unless the people who join are part of a relatively large circle and have a great deal of influence on those in that circle, the instructed manner of “list building” may prove disappointing.
There is nothing wrong with utilizing one’s warm market to ask for product orders, but to really build a strong business there are simply other marketing skills that need to be obtained.
So, make sure that if you are looking to join Shaklee or even if you’re already involved with them, that you learn more marketing strategies that will help you build your team as well as help your team build theirs!
