Have you ever gotten frustrated with a prospect or lead who told you…
“I need to do my research on this before I make a decision.”
Or have you ever felt intimidated when someone said to you…
“Look, just give me the bottom line here!”
Or do you want to give up on that team member who refuses to “be coachable” and host home parties, as you keep suggesting?
Did you see what I did there in those examples? How I put certain words & phrases in certain colors?
There are different personality types… how people are wired.
Personality types can be based on colors, although some base it on animals, gems, etc.
Once you familiarize yourself with the 4 basic personality types, it is then important to learn how to “Match & Mirror“: identify what color the person you’re talking to is (usually by ‘forming‘ them) and then turn that particular color on within yourself and act as they act – to a degree, don’t make it weird! lol
How To Deal With The 4 Personality Types In Your MLM Network Marketing Business
“Game recognizes game!”
Ever heard that saying? Well, in the context of what we’re talking about, personalities recognize their own.
For example: Someone I know was talking about a friend of hers and I could see myself (yellow) all up IN her description of him!
Yep, it’s EASY to identify your own personality type in someone and act accordingly, but it takes practice learning to identify and then “match & mirror” other types.
So, read the following and then be sure to practice:
1.) identifying the colors in others (start with close friends and family even) and then
2.) matching & mirroring them!
They are mainly money-motivated and money-driven. They typically could care less how the product or service helps people. The biggest concern is the bottom line… how well does the product or service move and how much money will I make from the sales of them?
As team members:
Reds are those “sharks” everyone wants. They are go-getters and will NOT require a lot of hand-holding from you. Yeah, you might have to show them something once or twice (or at least point them in the direction to learn it) but once they get it, they take off and run with it!
Depending on how new you are to ‘the game’, you may not get heavy-hitter reds in your business as they generally join other heavy-hitters, but if you get a red who is an up and coming, you have a good strong “soldier” on your team who has great potential to BECOME that heavy-hitter – possibly even passing YOU up in rank within the company!
If you, yourself, are a strong yellow type, they may be somewhat intimidating to you with their brash abrasiveness… but if you can just recognize it for what it is – just how they’re wired and not personal – as well as learn to tap into YOUR red side, you’ll be just fine handling a strong red type.
While they are interested in money and helping others, blue types are mainly about having fun. How can this business be FUN for them? They may want to know about the camaraderie of the team, local gatherings, company events, and they may even be super-open to hosting home parties!
As team members:
Blue personalties are bubbly, lively, and will be great to “get the party started” when and if you have local events or even at company-based ones. They will be the ones (along with reds) who will be open to doing the intros on conference calls and liven up those Google Hangouts.
Blues don’t have a problem with going up to people and talking to them, either. They will start up a conversation in a heartbeat.
So, however you have to; provide them with training on prospecting servers, doing home parties, and doing the 3-foot rule because those are areas your blue teammates will THRIVE in!
Greens want to know the ins and outs of the business, as well as the products or services. What are the ingredients? How DOES that comp plan work? Like Reds, they are also interested in the bottom line, but they want the intricate details of HOW the money is made.
Don’t get ‘pissy-tailed’ with them and brush them off! Provide them with the links, PDFs, videos and any other tools and resources you have (or can get) access to and let them do what they do. Don’t worry… if they like what they see, they’ll get back with you!
What you DON’T want to do is to send them on their merry researching way into “Google-Land” where they are bound to find every negative piece of info on your company, products or services. So again, YOU provide them with whatever they need to analyze and let them have at it.
As team members:
If you have a green on your team, be prepared for them to want details, details, and MORE details before doing whatever you may suggest that they do. You could say, “Walk over to that table” and before they take the second step, they will ask you how fast should they walk or what do you want them to do once they arrive.
So if you, the team you’re a part of, or the company you’re in doesn’t already have step-by-step DETAILED instructions available; you might want to work on putting that together so you’re not feeling as though you have to walk them, and every green type you get thereafter, step-by-step through the process!
But don’t feel negatively about greens because they’re gonna pay close attention to detail and THAT can be a plus. They are going to make SURE things are right and in place. They can also be the one to help other greens on the team by breaking down the comp plan, as well as the ingredients or details of the products or services you offer, be it on conference calls, live team events, or on training videos.
Once they know the ins and outs, they will make sure the team is WELL-educated about the company and the products! 🙂 So, if they want to print out documents, create spreadsheets, and know the comp plan like the back of their hand, LET ’em!
Yellows are typically product or service-focused. Yes, they want to make money, but they want to know how the business, product or service is going to help and benefit people. If the product or service is bogus, they won’t wanna be involved with it. Yellows tend to get in companies they feel they can really get behind.
Even if they tried to join & promote a company they think has ‘scammy undertones’, or if they don’t feel that the products or services actually HELP people… they will (unknowingly) sabotage their efforts because, on a subconscious level; they don’t want to mislead anyone if they feel that the company, product, or service isn’t on the up and up.
They may feel the need to talk it over with their spouse (especially wives with their husbands) so let them do that!
It’s actually a bad idea to try forcing a yellow into signing up right off the cuff, as it typically ends up in them having buyers remorse and possibly quitting because they don’t like buying or signing up for stuff under pressure. So, give them the time & space they need to make their final decision and IF/when they’re ready and it’s something they REALLY want to do… they WILL be back!
As team members:
They oftentimes like to be told what they need to do, but don’t necessarily want you trying to force them to do things. Yellows are quite often introverts and therefore, won’t do well with hosting home parties or approaching strangers. They will do well with internet marketing, as long as they are trained in how to do so.
Also, because they are typically introverts, they work best “alone”.
They don’t like being micro-managed or told what to do in a way that makes them feel pressured, so give them room and time to flourish. Just give them the training video or the instructions and let them work at their own pace – which may be slower than others, but they WILL get the job done and if they need help, they will come to YOU and ask when they’re ready.
Strong yellow types tend to shut down and do NOTHING when feelings of overwhelm set in and take over, so again, don’t apply too much pressure!
They DO, however, love acceptance and praise for a job well done; so be sure to give them that when they make accomplishments… they may feel unappreciated if their merits and job well done go unnoticed and unrecognized, especially by those they love or have a great deal of respect for.
But yellows will nurture and take good care of their customers & team members, as they want them to be happy & successful!
A Few Things To Remember
Now that you’ve learned ways of dealing with the 4 Personality Types in your MLM Network Marketing business, hopefully it helps you to better deal with people where they are and how they’re wired, as opposed to thinking everyone is like you and treating them accordingly.
Just keep in mind that:
- Everyone has a level of each of the 4 personality types… one is just typically more dominant than the others
- People like those who are like themselves so, “BECOME” like that person for a greater shot at winning them over
- We’re ALL different and bring good qualities to the table no matter what our personality type is
So learn to work with people according to their personality type, allow them to work within THEIR core competencies (based on their personality) and you will have much happier team members & customers in your business!'Til next time... bye for now!
