Ah ‘free’…such a lovely word and concept. Free samples at Costco (or Sam’s…take your pick); a free meal at your favorite restaurant because it’s your birthday; free business opportunities; free MONEY!

Yep, everybody loves free…and everything should be free, right?

WRONG!!!

From a  consumer standpoint, you can never go wrong with getting something for free.  But from a business owner’s perspective, free can be a real pain in the…butt.

Sure, we (biz owners) may give things away for free at our discretion, but unfortunately when it comes time to ask for the sale or even imply that we are offering something for sale, out surfaces those who tend to feel that EVERYTHING should be free and they will give you a hard time as they express that sentiment, even to the point of being downright insulting!

As a business owner myself (and not just in the realm of Network Marketing), some “kind”, paraphrased remarks I’ve had the dis-pleasure of having to deal with:

“I can’t believe you’re charging for this when it should be free!”…

“You’re crazy…this is a scam!”

“This woman CLAIMS to have knowledge of (xyz) but she’s charging for information that should be free”

I’m sorry, but that’s just not the world that we live in.   Naturally, free has it’s place and it can definitely be a blessing. In fact, I did a video about almost a year ago from this date that was similar to this post where I talked about ‘free’ being a double-edged sword…both a blessing and a curse – to the business owner, that is.  Feel free (no pun intended) to check it out:

Now, to all who feel that everything in the world should be free, I propose a challenge to you…

The next time you walk into your place of employment, once you clock in,  go knock on your boss’s door. Once he or she invites you in, sit down and say these exact words:

“You know what (fill in your boss’ name here), I have come to realize that everything in life should be free. Information, food, gasoline, my rent/mortgage, my mode of transportation…EVERYTHING – including MY time, energy and services to you and your company. Therefore, from this day forward, I request that you no longer pay me…I will come in each day and work for FREE!”
