Safelists

Safelist marketing is another one of those marketing avenues (like Traffic Exchanges) that gets its fair share of criticism as being a "waste of time". But I beg to differ because I have used Safelists and I have received opt-ins from them. I won't say a TON of them, but it just lets me know that they can work if YOU work THEM.

Not only that, but I view safelists as a GREAT way to test your ad-writing skills. I mean, why spend money on placing an in an ezine or what-not if you don't know if your ad will pull or not? So, while safelists do consist of a bunch of people trying to market their own product, service or business/program...it's also chock-full of individuals who are more than likely NOT having much success. If you are a true leader who can help those people then they just might be willing to have a look into something or someone who can grant them more success than they are having right now.

So, don't rule out safelists!

We will cover some basics on using safelists to market whatever it is you're marketing.

Step One

First, you'll want to sign up with about 10 safelists to start. Now this will take a little time initially, but after you sign up and have verified each list, it will only take a few minutes to send your messages each night.

Here is a list of the Top Ten Safelists:

Warning...Important...Read This! You WILL see and receive messages from other opportunities. The normal reaction is to open them up and send for free information. Especially if something sounds to good to be true. Don't do it! You are just wasting your time and will fall into a pattern of jumping from business to business again. In order to be successful you need to focus on your main opportunity. If you waver and don't consistently promote your opportunity, you will NOT succeed.

What to Expect

In most cases, you cannot send messages on consecutive days as a free Safelist member. So it's important that you rotate your messages each week. I have set up the Daily Action Plan so you can start and send messages to 8 different Safelists on any day of the week.

For instance; If you use day one through day six this week, then start over again next week with day one. That way you'll know that you will be allowed to send your message again.

There are varying opinions on what days are and aren't the most responsive, so I'll leave that up to your best judgment. The biggest response days in my experience have been Monday through Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. From Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday, the response rates drop off. They do, however, pick up on Sunday evenings too. Holiday weekends in the U.S. usually get huge responses.

I have included the Safelist Directory and the link to Traffic Hoopla on the "Additional Safelist" page. The Safelist Directory has over 4,500 Safelists that you can join for free all in one location. Traffic Hoopla rates the top (most responsive) 20 Safelists on their website and Leadpage Safe Rankings rates 50 of the top Safelists.

It's important that you test -- test -- test when sending messages. Find out which subject lines and messages get clicked on and read so you can concentrate on those subject lines, messages and Safelists.

ProTrackerPlus -- has a great link tracking tool that you can use.

If this is the first time here, you will need to join each list before you can send out your message. To make it easier, I have broken down the action plan into 6 daily sessions so it won't be too hard or time consuming. Setting up your Safelists will be the most time consuming thing you do, but you will only have to set up each Safelist one time. So when you begin promoting your system, it will only take you a couple of minutes to send you messages with each Safelist.

Once you're a member of all the Safelists, it's just a matter of logging in, copy & pasting (some Safelists even save your messages so this step can be avoided) your message and subjectline and pressing a button. This process takes no more than 1 minute per Safelist, so you should be able to easily do a nights promotions in 10 to 20 minutes.

You will also need a "contact" email box and a "list" email box. This is because you will receive hundreds of emails from other list members. You use the contact email address so the list owner can contact you (if needed) and you use the list email address for the other list members to send you their messages. Your list email should be one that can take a lot of messages without bouncing them and makes it easy to delete all the emails. NEVER use your (main) email address for your list email address.

If you would like an email address that can take a lot of email messages that can easily be deleted, just click on the link below and sign up for a Gmail account. Gmail is Google's version of email. It's free and perfect to use for Safelists because it can handle up to 1 million messages that can be deleted with the click of a few buttons. You can also sign up for multiple gmail accounts.

Deleting Messages in Gmail

You will receive a lot of messages (to your list email box) from other Safelist members as a condition of being a Safelist member. You DO NOT have to read these messages unless it's a credit only Safelist that requires you to read the emails to receive mailing credits. It is very easy to delete your messages from your Gmail account. Here's how...

1. Click on the "All" button you see above the messages in your inbox. That will check all the messages on the first page.

Select: All, None, Read, Unread, Starred, Unstarred

2. When you click All, another link will appear like the one below.

All 100 conversations on this page are selected. Select all 608 conversations in Inbox

3. Click that new link that says Select all 608 conversations in Inbox

4. Click the Delete" button and a box will pop up that says

"This action will affect all 608 conversations in Inbox. Are you sure you want to continue?"

Click the OK button. You will want to do this on a daily basis to keep your inbox free.

That will delete all the messages.

You can follow the same procedure to empty all of your folders. Empty your trash folder once a month or so.

  • Make sure your email message has your contact information - name, email address and phone number (optional, but recommended) - listed at the bottom of the page.

  • Use different subjectlines. That's what gets people curious enough to open your message. The subjectline is the MOST IMPORTANT part of your message!

  • Track your messages so you know what kind of click through rates you're getting.

  • Switch messages around and make sure your subjectlines match the body of the letters you use.

  • Use subjectlines that YOU would click on. How about the subjectline that got you to click on the message that brought you to my website? If it worked for you, it should work for others too.

  • Vary the times of day you promote. If you've been promoting in the morning, start promoting in the evening, etc.. Don't be afraid to switch things around.

  • Register for the member forum and find out what is working for other members, they can be very helpful.

  • If you send to 3 Safelists a day, start sending your message to 5, 7 or more Safelist a day. Send to as many email addresses as possible each day.

  • Join and send your messages to the Safelists in the Safelist Directory. There are more than 4,500 to choose from. Send to the lists that have the most members.

  • Join Traffic Hoopla (also located within your OBA business suite) and send to the 20 Safelists/Traffic Exchanges they rate as the most responsive.

  • Try other forms of traffic generation methods. The more the better.

Keep in mind the season and time differences around the world. When it's summer in the northern hemisphere, it's winter in the southern hemisphere. We have members from every continent around the world. When it's summer the weather is nice and people tend to be outside longer and not behind their computers. With the exception of Australia, your major markets are going to be the US, Canada and Europe.

Traditionally, fall is the busiest time for people seeking opportunities to join. Remember that when you're promoting. If you don't sign anyone up in your first week or two - keep at it, eventually you'll still refer 5 or 6 (some will sponsor far more) within your first 30 days, so don't worry. But if you quit, you'll never sponsor anyone.

MOST IMPORTANTLY! Don't quit! If you don't succeed at first, keep at it. The biggest difference between successful marketers and unsuccessful marketers is that the successful marketers NEVER give up.

If more members would focus their attention on promoting their opportunity, they could receive the same results. But there is an effort involved. So if you're too lazy to put forth an effort to build your own business and income, do yourself and your fellow members a favor and opt out of the program now. There's no use wasting your time and everyone else's time by doing nothing.

I promote the exact same way as you will be promoting. All you have to do is follow the plan. I'm no different than you...

It's like any type of sales or promotion. You can go a week without a referral, then on the 8th day get 3-5 signups. That's the nature of the beast. Don't get discouraged -- get determined.

You have to continue to persist. If you quit you'll never know what could have been. Hang in there, if you succeed, so does everyone else on your team.

Daily Action Plan

Daily Action Plan

Click on the Safelist links provided in the Daily Action Plan and join each Safelist listed for free on 6 consecutive days. Go back to your email boxes and validate the messages as soon as you join, then login to the Safelist's back office and find the link to send out your message. You will only have to join each Safelist one time.

It would be wise for you to copy and paste your pre-written messages to a text editor like Microsoft Office, or on your word pad.

ALWAYS replace your name and URL in the proper areas before sending your messages. It is important to use your full name and not just your first name or a nickname at the end of your message. This lends credibility and professionalism to your message. This is your business, don't make it look amateurish.

DO NOT use the HTML mode when sending your letters. Always use TEXT.

HTML will format your letters into one big paragraph and in many cases won't get through the spam filters. You also want to make sure that the lines in your sentences are no longer than 55 characters and that you use as many paragraphs as possible to break up the message. This makes it easier to read and tends to get more click through response. The pre-written letters are formatted properly for you, so all you have to do is copy, paste and insert your URL and name.

You can copy the subjectline and message you want to use from your text editor, paste them into the Safelist composition area, and press the send button. That will blast your ad to the members in that particular Safelist. Repeat this for all 3 Safelists each day and that's it! It should take you no longer than 20 minutes, depending on your connection speed.

Do I Have to Read the Safelist Emails from Other Members?

No, you do not UNLESS the only way to get YOUR ad sent out is from credits. Now, some safelists have both 'regular' emails and 'credit' emails - regular meaning that you can send your mailing out without needing to accumulate credits BUT, it must be done according to their schedule for free accounts. The credit emails are where you earn credits from reading other's emails and then the more you accumulate, the more mailings you can send out. You can also purchase credits or even buy solo ads for very reasonable prices but I would not recommend doing that until you've tested your ads to see which ones "pull" and you've started making money from your business. There are SO many safelists out there and they all claim to be "the best" but you will kind of get a "feel" for the ones that may be worth actually investing money into at a later time. For now, just focus on using the system as laid out here...for FREE!

Remember what was said earier about the temptation to click through to someone's offer and sign up or request more information...try to avoid it all costs BUT...if someone's ad peaks your interest THAT much to where you are actually feeling tempted to click the link, then you need to take note of those ads and get ideas (don't copy verbatim) for your own ads!

When joining the safelists, be sure to pay attention to the types of emails they ask for. Use Gmail accounts (some have even banned AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) and pay attention to terms such as "subscription email", "list email", and "contact email". Your contact email address can be a semi-main account...perhaps not the one you use for personal emails, etc. but one that you have set up to get important admin announcements, etc. DO NOT use this particular account as your subscription or list email account - that is the one that you create that will become completely FLOODED with the safelist emails from other safelist members! That is the one you will go in and clean out because it will fill up very quickly!

Now, the contact email address will get some safelist emails sent to it as well, but these are mainly solo-ads and you can get bonus credits for opening these and clicking on the "get credits" link to view the page they are promoting. This is where the "Safelist Email Reading System" I put together will come into play....

Good luck!

You do not have to limit yourself to the safelists listed here...if you find others (and you probably will) then by all means, join them as well...add them to your Daily Action Plan to get even more exposure!

When joining a list, look at the membership number and type of list it is. If it has fewer than 100 members, don't waste your time. If it doesn't have something to do with Internet business or income you may want to pass on it as well.

For instance, if the list reads; Bonnie's Safelist for Birds - membership 43

You may want to pass on it. Chances are, you aren't going to generate too much interest in your program.

But, if it reads; The Earn More Money Safelist - membership 2,862

You would definitely want to join it.
