Why Online Marketers Ask For Email Addresses

by

I wasn’t quite ready to get into talking about email marketing just yet.

But when I was recently hit with this on my FB fan page…

Why Do Online Marketers Ask For Email Addresses
I’ve hidden George’s last name and FB avatar to protect his identity

I felt the need to address the topic of…

why online marketers ask for email addressesWhy Online Marketers Ask For Email Addresses

Now, I’m going to be hitting this from two different angles:

1. If the question is being asked by an Online Marketer and…

2. If the question is being asked by someone encountering an Online Marketer.

It seems to me that George is a little of both – he appeared to be someone who desires to become an Online Marketer (I assume this since the “5 things” he was inquiring about was my 5-Step Formula which is designed to help those in business to build their business online) but he may be new to the whole “Online Marketing World” because of his statement to me.

*sigh* So here goes…

If You Are An Online Marketer Wondering Why You Should Ask For Email Addresses

You may be wondering why you should ask for email addresses.  The answer is, because you want to build your email list for marketing purposes.  It has been stated as pretty close to a fact that,

“It often takes 7 times or more of someone being exposed to your offer before they make a final decision to buy from or join you.”

So, you’ll want to collect your website or blog visitors name and email (or at the very least, their email) so that you can follow up with them.

Some marketers say, “The money is in the list” and others say, “The money is in the follow up”.  Both are true.

When a Network Marketer shares their business with someone, what’s the most important thing your sponsor tells you to do?

Follow Up!

It’s no different online… it can be done via phone, but most often we do it via email – preferably using an automated email follow up system.

It’s also a good idea to get contact information so that you can build rapport with people.

When it comes to marketing online…

“People do business with those they know, like and trust.”

Therefore, sending out valuable content (NOT just sales pitches all the time) to your email list will help you to become someone they can depend on to answer questions they may be having and just providing them with information they can use!

If You’ve Encountered Online Marketers And You’re Wondering Why They Ask For Email Addresses

Now if  you’re on the receiving end of it all, you may want to know why it is that when you search for information online, find something worth clicking on and once you arrive at a page, they ask you for an email address; it’s a matter of give and take.

You want information that the individual or company holds, and they want something (your email address) from you in exchange for that valuable information!

They’re not asking you for money or your credit card information (in most cases) but they do want the ability to stay in touch with you – in many cases, in order to be able to connect with you, build a “relationship” with you and, of course, to hopefully gain your trust enough to do business with you at some point.

Unfortunately, not all marketers are created equal.  Some are definitely out for themselves and have no interest in helping you.  You’ll know them because ALL they ever do is promote things you have to buy and NEVER give value in their messages.  And if you run across those, it’s usually very easy to unsubscribe from their mailing list(s).

But don’t think negatively about this process… it can actually be a win-win for both parties involved!

So, the next time you come across someone sharing some good content with you and they offer a free course, video, report, etc. and ask you for your email address in exchange – go ahead and grab the goods!

Remain on their list for a little bit and see if you like what they have to say.  If so, again, you’re gaining and they’re gaining.  If not, unsubscribe and move on to the next.

And if you are an aspiring Online Marketer having issues with providing your email to another Online Marketer

Keep in mind that in order to be successful online, at some point, YOU’RE going to want or need to ask for email addresses too and if you’re not willing to give yours in order to get information that can help you in your endeavors, then you just might attract others who feel the same way when it’s YOUR time to start asking for them.

It’s all about a little something called reciprocity! 🙂

Hope that makes sense!

'Til next time... bye for now!
