I posted something on Facebook the day I first caught wind of the fact that Vemma, a fellow (health & wellness) Network Marketing/MLM company, was being investigated and actually has been CHARGED by the FTC as being a pyramid scheme.
Now, this is NOT the time to start the whole,
“See… my company is better than yours” thing.
It can happen to ANY company (YES, even YOURS… even MINE!)
As one of my mentors said, it’s NEVER a good thing when a Network Marketing company shuts down.
Not only does it put a ding against our industry/profession as a WHOLE (believe it or not) but it is also a devastating time for those involved.
There are many people who RELIED on their MLM incomes and now, they have lost money and have to start fresh.
So, no gloating and shaming!
But like I said, it can happen to any company if, not just the company itself, but the REPS of that company aren’t careful!
I talk more about that here in this video…
But if you prefer to READ it, you can do that below…
(I’m just gonna copy & paste what I wrote)
THIS is why I am product-focused when it comes to building my business and why I teach the same to others: https://www.businessforhome.org/2015/08/ftc-charges-vemma-to-be-an-200-million-iilegal-pyramid-scheme/
My shake-based health & wellness company helped me see the light YEARS ago because they ALMOST had the same thing happen to them based on something similar (being TOO focused on recruiting) and not focused enough on the actual sales of products.
There were a few other things (outlandish claims by overzealous reps to name a few) but they nipped it in the butt and they’ve been around since the mid nineties!
So to ALL MLM reps: PLEASE, for the sake of your company…
STOP leading primarily with the biz opp if you’re doing that…
STOP saying the products cure cancer (or anything other disease) even if you DO know people who (or if you, yourself) are now in remission or no longer suffer from “xyz” as a result of taking the products – the FTC already comes down hard on MLM companies, but even MORE so on health and wellness/weight loss companies! We have to be extra careful! Instead say, “This product MAY help with ____”…
STOP sharing obviously-photoshopped pics of celebrities “endorsing” your product(s), as it could cause lawsuits FROM those celebs unless they have expressly given the company permission to use their name, photo, etc. in marketing and…
STOP making outlandish income claims if you’re doing that!
You want your company to be around for years to come, don’t you? Then market wisely and focus on building a strong CUSTOMER base, with recruiting lightly sprinkled in from time to time… and grow your team from your happy, satisfied customers!
Otherwise, what happened to Vemma, among other companies, could happen to YOUR company too!
If you have taken heed to what I said in my video and you DO find that you are in a company that focuses SOLELY (or super-heavily) on recruit, recruit, RECRUIT… and you can’t make (significant) money from selling the product or service…
